Story

Just like the original Players Gold, this blend has been created with usability and sweetness in mind. Tasting characteristics vary depending on how the blend is dialled but you can consistently expect notes of: Red Apple, Milk Chocolate, Fig Rolls

The blend is a 50/50 mix of two single origin coffees:

Hondura | COMSA | Washed

Since its inception in 2001, Café Orgánico Marcala Sociedad Anónima (COMSA) has burgeoned from a small collective of 69 members to a formidable force in Central American cooperatives, now exceeding 1,200 members. Grounded in the principles of sustainable, organic agriculture, COMSA has become a beacon for the region, advocating for and implementing innovative practices in coffee cultivation.

Central to COMSA's mission is the dissemination of knowledge and the cultivation of innovation among its members. Through practical experimentation and tailored approaches to organic farming, members are empowered to explore new techniques and optimise their agricultural practices. This ethos extends beyond coffee cultivation, encompassing initiatives such as infrastructure development for quality processing and the establishment of a recycling plant to address environmental concerns.

Beyond coffee cultivation, COMSA has diversified its impact, supporting endeavours such as beekeeping for income diversification and operating Finca La Fortaleza, a model farm turned training facility. Additionally, their foray into education with the transformation of a failing private school into an international institution underscores their commitment to community development. Honduras' consistent competition with Ethiopia for the third spot in global Arabica volume since 2017 further emphasises the nation's significance in the coffee industry, affirming COMSA's role in shaping its trajectory.

Rwanda | Humure CWS | Natural

Humure station is unusual in Rwanda as it is managed entirely by women. Last year, our in-country partner Emmanuel, invested in new washing channels and a big storage unit to help the station produce higher quality coffees at a larger scale. The name Humure comes from the highest hill in the area, it's a popular visitor destination, and with all the recent work on the station, soon to be a flag for quality in Rwandan coffee.

This Natural is a screen size 12 lot, this means small beans. We started buying smaller screen size lots from Emma in 2021, it's been really positive in a couple of ways. It's enabled us to offer high quality Rwandan coffees at a price that's not out of reach for an approachable house coffee. Secondly, and more importantly, it adds value to a product that would likely otherwise be destined for the commodity market, meaning more money for the community.

Sustainability & Post Life
  • Carbon neutral production
  • Post-consumer wastemade pouches from a minimum of 83% recycled material
  • Recycle with bags at larger supermarkets (4 LDPE)
  • Remove label if possible (don't worry if not, we've ensured it's under the industry standard 5% of the whole item, so it can be recycled)

Coffee FAQ

Does your coffee come as whole bean or ground?

We only sell whole bean coffee. This is to ensure you make the best cup possible and a big part of that is grinding the coffee just before using it.

If you're in need of a grinder, head to our brewing store.

What's the difference between espresso and filter roast?

We profile most of our coffees for both espresso and filter. In basic terms, espresso coffee is often more developed and slightly darker than a filter roast. This varies with each coffee and in general we roast our coffee to what is considered a light/modern profile. Which one is best for you depends on your intended brewing method.

You can search by brew type on our shop.

Is your coffee roasted to order?

We roast multiple times throughout the week and dispatch online orders twice per week (at minimum). Due to the way we roast coffee, we recommend a minimum rest period of 10 days before brewing.
